Traeger smoke setting

I just purchased your book, and I have a question about brisket.
I use a traeger bbq, the smoke cycle heats to about 150, the med cycle heats to about 250, should I heat the brisket to a certain temp before smoking or just heat the bbq and place the brisket and smoke first before cooking or cook first then smoke?
Please let me know, thank you John

    John:

Just forget about that smoke setting and cook the brisket according to the
    directions in the book.

    Two things…

    1) The pit temperature at the smoke setting is adjustable using some dip
switches on the circuit board. Don’t know how to set it though.

    2) Get the digital control if you can – that will give you a more precise
    pit temp setting.

    Thanks,
    Bill
